As we work towards a full RemiliaNET beta launch with extensive social features, part of our development process addresses the quintessential chat experience. This process has enabled us to bring an overhaul to the RemiliaNET global chat, a marked improvement for user chatting experience.

Global Chat

This update overhauls the Beetleboy global chat, switching from the Miladychan shoutbox to a real-time WebSocket chat. We've tweaked the design slightly for a cohesive chat experience, shifting a denser IRC-style design with a restyled mobile layout. Real-time draft visibility is improved along with fixing the swap flicker and patching input lag from per-keystroke rerenders. Pasted URLs unfurl into rich previews, cached server-side and de-duplicated so popular links aren't re-fetched per message. Images, GIFs, and videos are all attachable with drag-and-drop upload support.

Level 10 gating has been removed, allowing new users to join chat immediately now that account access is all in-house and no longer dependent on the Miladychan fork. Overall, we feel that the chat experience will be much smoother and a lot more dynamic. If you haven't used global chat in a while, please give it a try!

Minor Features and Fixes

Beetleboy Mechanics

• Recycle recipes have been fixed and rebalanced
• Specimen pin has been added as a rare hunt drop

Optimizations

• Per-user beetle cache refreshed on craft success to avoid stale inventory
• Trophy shelf visual glitches have been smoothed out and trophies render their name titles properly now
• Moderation tools have been enhanced and streamline for ease of intervention, along with a much improved moderation dashboard
• SQLite split in separate reader/writer connection pools to improve concurrent load handling
• End-to-end Sentry query tracer improvements reducing noise and improving back end

RemiNET's Social Features and the Future

We continue to prepare for our beta launch of RemiliaNET's full social suite. While the research and development of a future chat system was utilized lightly to help provide this global chat update, please keep in mind that a future chat implementation would contain many more features and an overhauled design.

Current global chat is still a placeholder to allow users to interact while enjoying the activities RemiliaNET provides. You can expect much more from RemiliaNET's beta launch in the future.
