RemiliaNET Alpha v0.8.1: Remilia API and Developer Portal

One of Remilia's biggest strengths is the creativity and initiative shown by its community. As RemiNET develops further, we felt it was time to support the various community members who already have or intend to tinker with our platform as they explore ways to enhance the RemiNET experience.

This update introduces the first public developer infrastructure for RemiliaNET with the release of the RemiliaNET API, developer portal, and accompanying documentation.

Developers can now register applications, request access to supported RemiliaNET functionality, and build external services that connect directly to the network. Alongside this release, development continues across several upcoming RemiliaNET features, with additional fixes and interface improvements included in this cycle.

Public API and Developer Portal

RemiliaNET now provides a public API for developers building applications, backends, bots, scripts, and other integrations around the network.

The initial API surface provides access to public profiles and directory information, account statistics, notifications, Beetle Game state and discovered cards, pokes, and global chat. Access to protected functionality is controlled through explicit scopes, allowing applications to request only the permissions required for their integration.

Two application types are currently supported. API clients allow backends, bots, and scripts to interact with RemiliaNET as an application, while login clients allow users to sign into third-party applications with RemiliaNET and authorize those applications to make supported requests on their behalf. Login clients are intended for user-delegated functionality, including access to private account data or actions attributed to a signed-in user.

Developers can create and manage applications through the new developer portal available from the RemiliaNET profile menu. Applications can be configured with the appropriate client type, requested scopes, and connection settings, with credentials issued through the portal.

This is the first public version of RemiliaNET's developer surface. We intend to expand the API alongside the network itself, allowing external applications to integrate more deeply with RemiliaNET identity, social systems, and other services as they are released.

Fixes and Improvements

  • Fixed an issue causing users to occasionally appear as "unknown" in global chat.
  • Announcement images now expand to full-screen on hover.
  • Fixed profile notification and profile-menu dropdowns occasionally becoming stuck in their open state.
  • Profile trophy counts now include all trophies owned by a user rather than only trophies currently displayed on their shelf.
  • Additional code-quality improvements, test-suite cleanup, and internal documentation improvements have been completed across the application.

The public API and developer portal establish a new foundation for building on top of RemiliaNET rather than only interacting with it through the site itself. As the network's social and identity systems continue to expand, the developer platform will expand alongside them.

We're excited to see what beautiful creations you can make with the Remilia API. As we further ourselves on this development journey, we look forward to seeing our intrepid and innovative community experiencing the same momentum alongside us. We'll see you on RemiNET.
